Poker used to be associated with commonplace games of chance, stacked cards, dingy venues and smoke filled rooms; during today's poker boom, however, it is recognized as a proper strategy game. Poker is a game where a good player can beat a bad one in the long term by careful consideration and strategic action. There is no one strategy for playing poker, rather, there are many approaches all based on the same foundations of mathematics, probability, and player psychology.
At PokerStrategy, players learn the shortstack strategy for No-limit Texas Hold'em first. It is based on playing only a few, strong hands and taking little money to the table. There are other strategies where one buys in to a table with a lot of money, where one tries to win many small pots, or a few big ones. Poker is a game where one can win, so long as one adheres to the basic laws that govern it, probability in particular.
